All about CSRD legislation | Different Thinking Podcast #27 with ESG Director Cora Schop

In episode #27 of the Different Thinking Podcast we address a topic that is becoming urgent for more and more organizations: CSRD legislation. Our guest is Cora Schop, ESG Director at Green by Blue. With her background in accountancy as well as her passion for sustainability, she helps companies with sustainability issues. At Green by Blue, Cora currently guides about a hundred organizations - mandatory or voluntary - in the implementation of Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and she enjoys doing so. In the podcast, led by host Cis Hageman, she explains clearly what the CSRD entails and how companies can get started with it practically.

Sustainability is more than just regulation

What is striking is that Cora approaches sustainability as something more than regulations. By - as part of forming CSRD policy - entering into dialogue with stakeholders, from customers to employees, insight is gained into what is really going on inside and outside the organization. And that forms the basis for sustainable strategies that work.

Even if your organization is not (yet) required to report according to CSRD, it is valuable to get started anyway. Think about increased supply chain demand, attractiveness as an employer or taking advantage of new market opportunities. As Cora says, "Sustainability is not hype, it's here to stay."

Sustainability goes beyond climate or environment

Companies often think of sustainability in terms of electric cars and solar panels, but the CSRD goes much further. Think of themes such as vitality, diversity, training, safety and human rights in the chain. Organizations must determine what is material to them by talking to stakeholders. This not only provides relevant data, but also insights that contribute directly to a future-proof course.

In this episode you will hear, among other things:

  • What CSRD means and to whom it applies;
  • How to understand relevant sustainability topics;
  • Why stakeholder dialogue is crucial;
  • How to get from ambition to measurable goals;
