Brenda Stelpstra on ADHD and autism in the workplace | Anders Denken Podcast #17

How do ADHD and autism affect working life? What obstacles do these employees face? And how do you, as an employer, handle them well? In our latest Anders Denken Podcast, Brenda Stelpstra, founder of BV Assist, provides answers.

Brenda's personal story began eight years ago with burnout caused by her neurodivergent brain. Diagnoses of her two children with autism and ADHD quickly followed. These challenging experiences made her aware of the many obstacles people with challenges face in the workplace. Whether this is ADHD or autism. In talks and trainings, Brenda combines her personal story with cases from the workplace.

'Very briefly, it means that people with ADHD or autism process information differently,' Brenda says. 'As a result, emotion regulation is also different. Many companies think that when they hire someone with ADHD or autism, it is often someone distant from the job market, but that is a false assumption. In fact, the chances of having someone in your company with ADHD or autism are very high. As much as 25 percent of the world's population is neurodivergent. That means the brain works differently than "normal" brains and this person processes information differently. And that has an impact at work.'
