What is diversity and inclusion in the workplace?
When we talk about diversity and inclusion in the workplace, we are talking about the presence and acceptance of differences among employees within an organization. Differences can include age, gender, ethnicity, religion or physical ability. But it includes all differences between one person and another.
Diversity
When it comes specifically to diversity, it may be demographic diversity or cognitive diversity. Demographic diversity then refers to differences in demographic characteristics such as age, gender, ethnicity, race or nationality. Cognitive diversity in turn refers to differences in thinking styles, skills, experiences and perspectives.
Inclusion
An inclusive culture ensures that all employees, regardless of diversity, feel valued, respected and engaged. Everyone feels welcome and can fully participate in work, team or activities.
