A look at the work of Nathalie Ruscaa and Didy Siere from team Safety & Prevention

Working safely is what everyone wants. And that is exactly what Nathalie and Didy, both Senior Safety Technicians by training, make sure of. They are happy to give a glimpse into their working day and tell more about why they enjoy their jobs so much.

Nathalie has worked for paraDIGMA groep since 2017 . "I have had different positions over the past few years which has allowed me to be constantly challenged and continue to develop myself. At the moment, I am training to become a Higher Safety Expert. Through this training I know my colleague Didy". Didy started within team Safety and Prevention of The Health and Safety Service as a Higher Safety Expert in training in late 2022. "I was looking for an organization where I could gain experience by performing interesting assignments. I feel there is still a lot to discover and I like the fact that I can do that here with a nice team consisting of colleagues with all kinds of different backgrounds. Everyone on the team has their own areas of interest and expertise so that fits well with the diversity of assignments we receive."

Nathalie and Didy carry out RI&Es as Higher Safety Experts in training and learn something new all the time: "With every RI&E, you get a look behind the scenes of very different organizations. Sometimes you visit a bakery, then a school, a factory or, for example, an animal crematorium. At these different locations we will talk to employees and managers to map out the working conditions and observe the location. Here it is important to have an eye for the smallest details and to ask questions and zoom in on all kinds of different scenarios. In this way we get as complete a picture as possible of the safety and the possible risks and draw up RI&E reports and a Plan of Action for the client. We find that we can really think along with the customer in this and often all kinds of things come up that the customer had never thought of, but which can really make a substantial difference to the safety and working environment of the employees. It's great to be able to make such a concrete contribution to that."

Security & Prevention Team

In addition to Nathalie and Didy, the Safety & Prevention team includes A&O experts, Safety Experts and Occupational Hygienists in training. The team is supervised by their committed Manager of Safety & Prevention. "We have weekly team meetings and there is then real attention to how everyone is at work. If you run into something, they immediately think about a solution. This allows you to help each other and it creates a good balance. A lot is expected of you, but you certainly don't have to do it alone. It often happens that we do assignments with two colleagues because that way you see more and can give more complete advice. Because the colleagues have different backgrounds, we look at aspects of the client in different ways, which makes joint client visits very instructive. We know that with other occupational health and safety services there are sometimes rigid agreements about how many hours are allowed for carrying out an RI&E. At De Arbodienst, they don't work that way. As a result, we feel that we as professionals are really given room to develop ourselves and the result is that you end up with an increasingly experienced team that carries out high-quality assignments together. You work from freedom and trust and you can direct your own work, but also fall back on the team."

Future plans

There are plenty of ideas for the future. "The team is really in a phase right now where we are building and developing with each other. There are great ideas, for example, to give more concrete follow-up to the Plan of Action we make for the client. And our field is very broad, but offers many opportunities to delve into specific areas, such as explosion safety or accident analyses. The great thing is that if you were to specialize in these areas, there are opportunities within the organization to apply this knowledge to the customer and thus expand and optimize our services. We also like the fact that one of the Health and Safety Advisors is increasingly coming to us to use our knowledge and expertise to help think about the situation with certain clients. In this way we can make a real impact on sustainable employability and safety of employees from our own team but also in cooperation with the other professionals at paraDIGMA groep . That's what we do it for."
