Moving into occupational medicine

Several colleagues have made the switch to occupational medicine. The reason is different for everyone. Occupational health physician Peter Boek made the switch from the Emergency Department to occupational medicine because he wanted to make a difference. "I'm convinced that if we all spend just a little more time on the person behind the symptoms, a lot of pointless care can be avoided. At The Occupational Health Service, part of paraDIGMA groep, I take this time and feel every day that I am really helping people."

Chantal van Snippenburg has also made a transition. After working as an acting family physician for a year, she decided to change course. "Now I get much more satisfaction out of my days. I feel like I'm talking about the things I think I should be talking about. Moreover, long-term absenteeism is a sign of more serious medical problems (psychological or physical); in general practice it was often different. I find it a challenge to fit in well with this in reintegration advice. I also enjoy analyzing all the factors that play a role in reintegration and advising on them. You are not only reactive but also constructive."
