Reintegration program: when is it not a viable option?

As an employer you may have to look for a quick and concrete solution for your disabled employee. When it appears that returning to the employee's own job or suitable work within the organization is no longer feasible, all energy and attention should be focused on getting the employee to work for another employer. However, what if there is real doubt about the feasibility of this? In such a case, a feasibility study can help and unnecessary efforts and costs can be avoided.

What is a feasibility study?

A feasibility study focuses on mapping the distance to work of the currently disabled employee. The investigation starts with a thorough study of the occupational health report. Information is then requested from the employer and any occupational health and safety service. Finally, an extensive and personal interview with the employee follows. In order to gain insight into the possibilities on the labor market, the LDC FIT test is also used. This instrument provides insight into the requirements for practicing a profession and examines whether there are professions that match the possibilities of the employee in question.

Based on the information gathered, a report is prepared containing a reflection of the interview, a conclusion and appropriate advice to the employer. While forming the conclusion and advice, the physical and mental limitations of the employee as well as the educational level, work history, age, interests and skills are taken into account.

When is a feasibility study used?

The research is used when it is doubtful whether someone can actually cooperate in a reintegration program. This may involve employees with (severe) physical limitations, but also other reasons why someone is hardly employable can play a role. These include the educational level, age and work experience. A feasibility study is indispensable when it must be demonstrated that continuing the reintegration efforts (at this time) cannot be expected of the employee and employer.

Take timely action!

Experience shows that it is often effective to conduct a feasibility study before starting a2nd track program. This saves time and resources for the employer.
At all times the advice will be to use an expert assessment by the UWV to test whether you as an employer have made sufficient reintegration efforts.

The report of the feasibility study contains the conclusion on the job opportunities of the employee in question and the advice on whether or not to use further reintegration resources.
